setting up server

I am trying to set up a server and have things connect to it.

1.  The documentation says, for UNIX (page 2-10, section 3):
	Running as root user in terminal window, ..... invoke emulator

    Is the "root user" actually "root" or is it "inferno"?

2.  After doing the above, section 4 says:
	Log into a terminal window as the primary Inferno user.....

    I presume this is separate from the previous login, and that this time
    I become "inferno" before invoking "emu". Is that correct? In that case,
    why did we do Section 3? All further instructions refer to the emulator
    console window. Do I use the one created in Section 3 or Section 4?
