Is it neccesarry to know Plan-9 before learning about Inferno

>From my very limited reading of both OS's on their Web pages, I feel
that knowledge and use of Plan-9 might be essential to use Inferno.

Is this a correct assumption ? 
If so, what is the recommended reading list
